Course 1- Becoming an Effective CPRS Trainer

This module presents adult learning principles and how they can be applied to the design and delivery of health information technology training. Participants are guided through methods to attain personal mastery of the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) graphical user interface which is the subject matter for end-user training. Once prepared with comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter, participants are presented with practical strategies to develop and deliver CPRS training using a wide-variety of training methods and tools.

Enrolled participants must have access to the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and all Health Informatics Specialist/Clinical Applications Coordinator (HIS/CAC) menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises.

Course 2- Authorization Subscription Utility/Text Integration Utility (ASU/TIU)

The Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Authorization Subscription Utility/Text Integration Utility (ASU/TIU) software modules provide the functionality in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) needed by all members of the healthcare delivery team to comprehensively and legibly document care so that it is searchable and available to all staff when needed.  This learning module provides instruction covering the full range of knowledge and skills required of the Health Informatics Specialist/Clinical Applications Coordinator (HIS/CAC) to configure and maintain clinical documentation functionality for use in CPRS in accordance with national and local policies.

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Prior completion of the module HIS-CAC Training: Becoming an Effective CPRS Trainer is strongly recommended.

Course 3- Orders and Order Menu Management

Electronic entry of clinical care orders not only enables more efficient care delivery, but also enhances patient safety by reducing the incidence of medical errors due to incomplete or illegible orders. This learning module provides instruction covering the full range of knowledge and skills required of the Health Informatics Specialist/Clinical Applications Coordinator (HIS/CAC) to construct and maintain all types of orders, orderable items, menus and menu items for use in Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).  Once prepared with comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter, participants are presented with hands-on exercises and practical strategies to develop and maintain orders and order menus.

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Course 4- Consult/ Request Tracking and Clinical Procedures

The Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Consult/Request Tracking Package provides the functionality in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) which enables clinical staff to order, track and complete requests for consultative services and procedures. This module will cover the various types of consult services as defined in the national consult business rules. The content is intended to provide a solid foundation in the set up and maintenance of the Consult/Request Tracking package. In addition, an introduction to Clinical Procedures is provided in relation to capturing clinical procedure results generated by other clinical software packages for inclusion in CPRS.

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Course 5- Patient Selection & Patient List Management

This module is divided into five units which will cover the patient selection functionality in CPRS and the options to customize and maintain patient lists and teams. It is acknowledged that it takes time and practice to fully develop the knowledge and skills necessary to support, maintain and optimize patient lists and teams.

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Prior completion of the modules Becoming an Effective CPRS Trainer, ASU/TIU, Orders, and Consult/Request Tracking and Clinical Procedures is strongly recommended.

Course 6 - Notifications

This module is divided into 8 units which will present both Order Entry/ Results Reporting (OE/RR) notifications and notifications triggered through the Text Integration Utility (TIU) package. The units will focus on how a notification gets triggered, how to set up/customize notification settings for the facility and how to process notifications in an efficient manner.

 

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Course 7- Advanced Text Integration Utility (TIU) Part 1

This module presents advanced concepts and skills in TIU configuration and parameter settings. Specialized documentation functionality including Crisis Notes, Clinical Warnings, Adverse Reaction/Allergy and Advance Directives (CWAD), Interdisciplinary Notes, Form Letters and Patient Record Flags (PRF) are covered in detail.

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Prior completion of Course 2- Authorization Subscription Utility/Text Integration Utility (ASU/TIU)  is strongly recommended as basic proficiency with ASU and TIU is assumed in this advanced course.

Course 8- Advanced Text Integration Utility (TIU) Part 2

This is the second course in a two part series on Advanced TIU functionality. COM Objects functionality is covered in detail with common application examples including the Diagram Annotation Tool and Mobile Electronic Documentation (MED). In addition, the CPRS documentation functionality specific to the Surgery, Discharge Summary, and Lab tabs are presented.

Enrolled participants must have access to CPRS and all HIS/CAC menus and keys in their TEST, MIRROR or Training accounts in order to participate in the required exercises. It is assumed that the participant already possesses basic proficiency in using the CPRS graphical user interface.

Prior completion of Course 2- Authorization Subscription Utility/Text Integration Utility (ASU/TIU)  is strongly recommended as basic proficiency with ASU and TIU is assumed in this advanced course.
