One module is available on the 1st of each month. Enrollment closes within 10 days of the end of the month.  Intended audience = employees of VA and Federal Partners (not intended for contract staff).  A printable version of the syllabus is available at this link.  Schedule is as follows:

Module 1  12 hours January and July
Module 2  13 hours February and August
Module 3  13 hours March and September
Module 4  12 hours April and October
Module 5  10 hours May and November
Module 6  10 hours June and December

Start during any month/module; the modules do not have to be taken in order!  Take any modules that interest you, or complete the entire series! Click the "Enroll now" link in the listing below to enroll into a module, using the enrollment keys.

Course Credit

Upon successful Module completion, students have access to a general education certificate, or a relevant accredited certificate through TMS 2.0.  The accredited certificates available include: ACCME, ACCME-NP, ACPE, ACPE-T, ANCC, APA, NBCC, ASWB, NYSED-SW.  Completion of the entire series is potentially worth a total of 70 credit hours.

Course name: Module 3: Workflow Analysis and Process Redesign
Course description:

This module will cover the fundamentals of workflow process analysis and system redesign in healthcare. Graphical process representation using flow chart diagrams, as well as methods for acquiring the clinical process knowledge needed for diagramming and analysis, are also addressed. The module will introduce the concepts and principles of human computer interaction and human factors as they relate to performance improvement. Newly Accredited!  Now offering 13 hours upon successful completion for: ACCME, ACCME-NP, ACPE,  ACPE-T, ANCC, APA, NBCC,  ASWB, NYSED-SW

Learning objectives:
  1. Discuss the usefulness of workflow analysis in identifying opportunities for improvement.
  2. Create a workflow diagram based upon the application of a systematic approach to workflow analysis.
  3. Describe strategies to gain acceptance of changes in work processes.
  4. Discuss human centered design framework and how it is applied to process redesign.
